I hope you enjoyed our first themed week! Don’t hesitate to share your story with us right here. If we’re anything to go by, I’m sure you have a story to tell, too! Our themed weeks will be on the first week of every month, so it’s back to business now.
I made the decision not to write FIGMENT as supernatural, but as our own Jenny pointed out to me, it’s not contemporary either. It fits more neatly into magical realism, and with that, I feel like it has found its place. I’m really happy knowing where it fits now.
In typical form, my notes are taking over my life. There are two reasons for this –
In deciding to change my location a bit, I had to create it. I love how this new location has changed the attitudes of some of my characters, given purpose to others, and even created more. I know I probably won’t use 905 of these notes, but the key to a good world is in knowing the details, and knowing what to share.
- My stupid eyes
I won’t get too deep into this rant, because Lord knows it comes up enough on my own blog, but suffice to say that three failed surgeries and a terrible infection has left me with less than perfect vision. There’s something about lights and screens that make everything into a pixilated mess. Do you see how the letters look on this misprinted cover? That’s how it looks all the time for me, except worse. It makes sitting behind the laptop quite a chore, so my typing time has gone down considerably.
That’s enough moaning from me.
Whatever the reason is, I’m glad to have the chance to untangle this world I’m creating. I’m both making it bigger and smaller, containing it and owning it, and i‘m delighted with the changes I’ve made. Hopefully next week, I’ll be able to brag about how much I’ve written, but if my vision doesn’t improve, I may have to get very cheeky and extend my deadline again. I hope it doesn’t come to that. I want to finish. Now if only I could get my eyes to cooperate.
